Have you ever been interested in just where your ancient relatives came from? I was curious. Since my wonderful identical twin died of cancer last year, I thought her children would like to know their mother's ancestry as well. I contacted nieces and nephew and got a Yes!
So I spit many times into a little vial, and sent it off to be analysed.
I got results. Most surprising - my Neanderthal DNA is higher that 65% of their other subjects. I think that's really cool.
My mother was Italian, so no surprise I'm almost 1/2 Italian. The rest of the genetic profile came from northern Europe.
Funny and interesting was from their prediction of Traits. Things I don't like - chewing sounds. Well, yeah, I don't.
They got my hair and eye color predicted correctly. And they measured the probability of having dimples, a widow's peak, finger length, freckles, cleft chin, skin pigmentation and more. They were right on.
Would I recommend this to anyone? Yes. Definitely. It's fun and informative. There are reports about Ancestry, Carrier Status, Genetic Health Risks, Relatives. There's so much scientific information!
It's mind boggling that all of us alive today are the accumulation of tens of thousands of years.
